Trend Spotlight: Classic Oak Tones

Wood flooring is a great way to add character, texture and depth to both contemporary and classic interior schemes. A stylish alternative to carpet, wood flooring has continued to increase in popularity with many homeowners now opting for hard flooring throughout their entire home.

At Knot & Grain, we have seen an uptake in demand for classic warm wood tones. Over the past 12 months, more and more of our customers are looking for warm-toned flooring in a move away from the pale greys and cooler undertones that dominated previously. Not just limited to kitchens and bathrooms, customers are looking to add warmer shades into bedrooms, home offices and dining spaces too.

Creating cohesion across interior spaces is more important than ever, and one of the benefits of Engineered Wood Flooring, Laminate and No-Vinyl tile is that they are all extremely easy to maintain and therefore ideal for busy family homes prone to spillages, muddy paws and everyday wear and tear.

Here's how you can bring these trend-worthy flooring hues into your home.

The Kitchen

Whether your prefer a classic shaker style kitchen, or a modern minimalist design, every type of kitchen will benefit from a classic toned wood floor. Selecting warmer oak tones in your kitchen floor will transform it into a warm and welcoming environment. For added interest, opt for a classic herringbone design to offset the straight lines of kitchen units, or contrast a minimalist design with a rustic wide plank floor.

The Bedroom

The bedroom is a great space to introduce wood flooring, creating a welcoming, natural environment. A classic oak floor will ensure that your flooring compliments almost any colour scheme and so will stand the test of time over the years as you want to update your bedroom decor in line with changing interior trends.

The soft furnishings in the bedroom will beautifully contrast with hard flooring, enabling you to layer up different textures and patterns through rugs, bedding, curtains and cushions for a well considered overall look.

The Dining Room

'The Classic Plank' - engineered wood flooring

Whether working with a large or small dining room, a warm toned floor can make a huge difference to the feel of a space. More so in more minimalist schemes, warmer hues will create a welcoming ambience, an important quality of any room where the family come together and socialise. Adding richness to a room, opt for a saturated wall and characterful panelling, introduce a large wooden dining table and complementary chairs to layer texture - by looking for planks and pieces with similar undertones you can ensure the space remains cohesive. Alternatively, look to match your furniture to your wall colouring, this will put more of the focus on the floor and allow the planks to take centre stage.

The Bathroom

The bathroom is a space where most people play it safe, especially when it comes to flooring. Engineered wood, although beautiful, isn't our number one choice for moisture-prone areas, so we would always suggest instead opting for a wood-effect vinyl free tile, or a laminate. Perfect for those looking to capture the Scandi-inspired aesthetic, vinyl free tiles offer all the visual qualities of wood but with the practicality of a tile. To recreate the look, offset the warmth of the wooden tiles with a darker daring wall colour such as grey, and keep the accessories to a minimum to really let the flooring shine.
